Obesity Canada launched its report “The High Cost of Inaction” which showcase the results of the economic analysis they conducted to determine the financial burden of untreated obesity on Canada’s healthcare system and the workplace.

Key messages of the report:

Skyrocketing Costs: Inaction on obesity cost Canada $27.6 billion in 2023—up 20% from previous estimates.
Healthcare System Overload: Obesity-related issues are costing Canada an extra $5.9 billion each year, with 19 million more doctor visits straining resources.
Economic Fallout: Obesity’s indirect costs have surged to $21.7 billion, driven by lost productivity, reduced workforce participation, disability pensions, premature deaths, and lower incomes.
